Coaching

After searching for that one person who could help or that one person who would understand my son, or that one person who had the expertise to diagnose all his needs or that one person who could find the right school for him or that one person who could just make everything alright, I realised that the one person to lead this was me – his parent. There is nobody in the local authority or the school or CAMHS who has the biggest opportunity to make the difference. They only see our children for a few hours, we see them all the time. There is nobody that cares more about your child and your happiness than you do, and there is nobody who is going to put in as much effort to help you as you can to help yourself.

It can feel a lonely place to be on the cusp of parenting differently, and it’s sometimes hard to open up about what is happening in your household.

However, you don’t have to go this alone, we all need supporters, we all need to draw on experts, we all need a team, but you are the team leader. Work out your strengths and areas you need help with. Have curious compassion about your child and think about your part in the family dynamics. Read, watch you tube videos, listen to podcasts, attend webinars, talk to teachers, ask for help. Have a look at my resource section for useful links. If you need 121 support to identify where you are now, where you want to be and how you can get there, find yourself a coach, a support group, a therapist, whatever it is you need. One thing I learnt is that they are not going to find you, you need to find them.

There is hope, there definitely is. Stay well, Stay strong, You got this!
